FAQs

What is a Civil Celebrant?

A Civil Celebrant officiates Marriages, as well as other life events without any religious ties.

A Celebrant organises the entirety of the ceremony from writing the script to lodging the paperwork. They are authorised by the Attorney General’s office and they are there to help create the perfect ceremony for you.

What does Marriage in Australia mean?

Marriage, according to law in Australia, is the union of two people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.

How do I choose the right Celebrant?

Choosing a Celebrant can be difficult and finding the right one can sometimes feel like speed dating. Just choose the person that you feel most comfortable with, the person who understands exactly what you want for your special day and if all else fails, go with your gut. Your Celebrant should feel like a friend.

What is the ‘NOIM?’

The Notice of Intended Marriage will be filled out during our initial meeting and need to be completed up to 18 months and at least one month before your intended wedding date.

Can my friend/relative perform the ceremony?

Yes, they can! If you want your BFF or someone special in your life to read your ceremony, that is absolutely fine. I will just need to perform the legal parts of the ceremony and sign the paperwork. We can all work closely together to create a beautiful ceremony with a personal touch.

Do you write the ceremony yourself?

Yes I do! Every ceremony is an original script personalised for you based on the stories that you share with me. I love getting to know my couples, so as well as meeting in person, I will send out a questionnaire for you both to fill out – this is so I can get the best idea of who you are as people and as a couple. A ceremony draft will be sent to you, to read over and note any changes you want made so the ceremony script is exactly what you want.

What will I need to fill out the paperwork?

You will need your passport or original birth certificate as well as your driver’s license. If you have been previously married, I will also need to sight your divorce order.

Okay I have chosen my Celebrant ... now what?

So, you have chosen me? Yay! We will organise an initial meeting to get the paperwork started (sign the NOIM) and so I can ask all the important questions like “who proposed and how?!”. Leading up to the big day we will have open communication as well as meeting up a few more times to finalise everything. I will also provide and lodge all the paperwork so you don’t have to worry about a thing.

How much do Celebrant’s charge?

Each couple is unique, so the quote will reflect that. The base packages are a set price and are included in the information pack that will be sent once an enquiry has been made. However, each couple can be slightly different depending on factors such as travel & personal requests.

What if something happens and the Celebrant is unable to perform the ceremony?

In the case of an emergency or any unforeseen circumstances, I am a part of a fantastic Celebrant network, which means someone I trust would be there to jump in last minute. This would be an unusual event, but sometimes things happen – all you need to know is that you don’t need to worry.

Do you offer other services other than Wedding Ceremonies?

Yes! I offer other services such as - Vow Renewals, Commitment Ceremonies, Baby Naming’s, Funeral Service & Spreading of the Ashes Ceremony. If you are interested in these other services, please enquire and we can discuss if I am the right Celebrant for your needs.

Travel Costs?

I am currently based on the Mornington Peninsula - travel costs will depend on location of your Ceremony and distance from there (no travel fee will incur within 80kms of Mornington). Each km after 80kms will be $0.80c per km. Elopements that are interstate or require overnight stays will be personally designed and an appropriate quote will be made.
